December 9th: Regina Spektor works on New Album with Mike Elizondo at The Cutting Room

Mega producer Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Mastodon, Fiona Apple) and engineer Adam Hawkins (Switchfoot, Eli Paperboy Reed) worked in Studio A at The Cutting Room Studios mixing the new album  from Regina Spektor.  The album, entitled “What We Saw From The Cheap Seats”, is due out May 12 2012.  This was an awesome record to be a part of we are so excited for its release in 2012!

 

December 1st: Tom Gardner Records Mos Def in Studio A

Mos Def returned to record at The Cutting Room Studios this month to work with engineer Tom Gardner on some new music, including a J Dilla track.

 

December 1st: New Villager Records at The Cutting Room

The Cutting Room Studios welcomes indie pop band New Villager to the studio today. Their session will be broadcast live on KEXP Radio (itunes under eclectic, or KEXP.ORG shortly. Stay tuned!

November 29th: Heywood Gould Records Commentary for Rolling Thunder at The Cutting Room

American screenwriter, novelist and director Heywood Gould visited The Cutting Room Studios to record audio commentary for the film Rolling Thunder (starring William Devane and Tommy Lee Jones) in Studio B with engineer Matt Craig.

November 29th: Elle King works on her New Album in The Cutting Room

Artist Elle King (EMI) joined producer Bjorn Yttling (Peter, Bjorn and John) for writing sessions for Elle’s upcoming RCA release with engineer Tom Gardner at The Cutting Room Studios.  Often compared to Adele, look for Elle’s album sometime next year…its going to be a good one.   To catch Elle’s sound check out this low tech but effective video for the song “No One Can Save You”

 

November 29th: Sandy Vee and Adam Lambert at The Cutting Room

French producer and mixer Sandy Vee (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears) visited The Cutting Room Studios mixing tracks for pop artist Adam Lambert as well as collaborating with highly sought after writer/artist Heather Bright.

September 22nd: Bjorn Yttling and Lana Del Ray at The Cutting Room Studios

Recent sessions at The Cutting Room Studios include producer Bjorn Yttling (of Peter, Bjorn and John) producing tracks with indie sensation Lana Del Ray. Lana’s first single “Video Games” comes out in mid October. Tom Gardner engineered the sessions.

 

September 16th: Passion Pit & M83

As the summer draws to a close, we had a great few months here at The Cutting Room Studios. We had great bands like M83 and Passion Pit pass through along with tons of amazing independent talent. Bring on the fall!

July 21st: Music By Prudence Nominated for an Emmy

Music by Prudence, an Academy Award winning documentary on Zimbabwean singer Prudence Mabhena, has been nominated for an Emmy in Outstanding Music and Sound. Congratulations to Staff Engineer Joseph Colmenero for his work on the score of this amazing film, recorded right here at The Cutting Room Studios!

July 7th: La Vida Boheme records at The Cutting Room Studios

La Vida Bohème, an alternative band from Caracas, Venezuela, tracking at The Cutting Room Studios today. The band takes influence from late ’80s punk, disco, funk, electronic music, jazz, salsa, reggae and dance music. Following their May release of “Nuestra”, the group brings its wild live show to the U.S. for the first time today for the Latin Alternative Music Conference in New York City.

June 8th: The Temper Trap record Sweet Disposition at The Cutting Room Studios

Check out this video of Australian indie rock band The Temper Trap recording the song “Sweet Disposition” at The Cutting Room Studios.  This song has a great vibe and you have probably heard it as it has been synced a lot since its release.  The band recently won a Brit Award for International Breakthrough Act.

 

June 21st: The Black Angels at The Cutting Room

June 3rd: John Legend & Art Garfunkel among recent sessions at The Cutting Room Studios

This month at The Cutting Room Studios regulars John Legend, Art Garfunkel and Deborah Cox all returned to work on projects.  Other recent sessions include engineer Matt Craig working with Bleiberg Entertainment on ADR for an upcoming Ghost Hunter movie entitled Episode 50, engineer Tom Gardner mixing for Interscope Records electro artist LMFAO’s new album.

June 2nd: Wildbirds and Peacedrums record at The Cutting Room Studios

Recording next week at The Cutting Room Studios, swedish husband and wife electronic and percussion based duo Wildbirds And Peacedrums. The session will be broadcast live on KEXP Radio, stay tuned for an air date. For a preview of their sound check out this video.

 

June 2nd: In studio video for “I’m a pilot” by Fanfarlo recorded at The Cutting Room Studios

Check out this video for “I’m A Pilot” by London-based indie pop band Fanfarlo, recorded and mixed at The Cutting Room Studios in Studio A by engineer Anthony Rocky Gallo. Fanfarlo is currently working on a new record due out later this year.  This is a great track, check it out!

 

June 2nd: The Ravonettes record “Gone Forever” at The Cutting Room

Check out Danish indie rockers The Raveonettes, recording the song “Gone Forever” at The Cutting Room Studios. The session was broadcast on KEXP Radio (www.kexp.org) with Anthony Rocky Gallo engineering the session. The band debuted a “haunting” new video for their song “Apparitions” yesterday on Pitchfork.

 

May 19th: Watch Katy Tur of NBC news get Autotuned at The Cutting Room Studios!

In this recent WNBC Channel 4 news broadcast, reporter Katy Tur visits The Cutting Room Studios to talk about Autotune and its impact on recording pop music. Katy interviews engineer Anthony Rocky Gallo, and studio owner David Crafa. Also seen here is rock band Gabriel’s Last Breath (Khristopher Fuselier and Perry Yazell) managed by Lorraine Popper, who were mixing their new album in Studio A at the time.

Southern Rock artist Shooter Jennings is mixing tracks from his upcoming album in Studio A at The Cutting Room Studios with engineer Brandon Mason(David Bowie/Secret Machines) Matt Craig. May 10th: Mixing My Morning Jacket at The Cutting Room

This week we are mixing for the VH1 Storytellers performance by My Morning Jacket in Studio A, scheduled to air June 3rd on VH1. Engineers Joseph Just and The Cutting Room’s Matt Craig engineered the session. The performance includes songs from their forthcoming release entitled “Circuital”.

 

May 5th: KEXP Radio Show WoPop broadcasts from The Cutting Room

The Cutting Room’s Tony Gillis is mastering a compilation record for Showtime’s series The Big C starring Laura Linney.   artists included on the compilation include Franz Ferdinand, Sara Bareilles, Modest Mouse, Lenka and many others…

April 12th: Noise pop band Parts & Labor and Art Garfunkel in session

Cool things going on at The Cutting Room Studios this week. Art Garfunkel returned to record with engineer Matt Craig in Studio A. Brooklyn noise-pop outfit Parts & Labor will be in this week to record. You can hear the recording session live tomorrow on KEXP Radio at 12 noon EST. The bands new LP, Constant Future, just came out March 8th on label Jagjaguwar.

 

April 11th: Fitz And The Tantrums in session

We were excited to have Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs from Fitz And The Tantrums back to record at The Cutting Room Studios last week. The group was recording new vocals for their track “Moneygrabber” with engineer Eshy Gazit. March 31st: Eclectic group, Peculiar Gentleman cut their album at The Cutting Room in a single day

Peculiar Gentlemen, the unlikely duo of folk/rock guitarist “Sweet” Willy Jive and hip hop/dance influenced keyboardist E-Beats, visited The Cutting Room Studios to cut their new album this week staff engineer Tom Gardner. We had a great time making this record (in about 10 hours) which can be described as clever lyrics, infectious rhythm, old-school soul and an extraordinary sense of humor.
