Preparing your music for Mastering:

If you are a DIY artist tracking your latest album at home, in hotel rooms, on boats etc , or tracking and mixing your project in a legitimate recording studio…you are going to need to master your music.

This is where we come in…..

Mastering is a misunderstood art and often an afterthought in the recording process for many up and coming artists and bands.  As a major recording studio and mastering house here in NY, day in and day out we hear first hand the lack of understanding of how to prepare music for mastering.

Ever wonder why some of the music on your ipod is almost unlistenable, super crunchy and easy to make your ears fatigue quickly?  We will show you why.  Wonder what the loudness war is all about? We will show you how this started, why it’s a problem, and what you can do to fight back and make your music sound great, as it was intended to be ….well we hope that was your intention.

The Cutting Room has been a major part of the music and recording scene for the past 15 years. We have worked with many of the industry’s biggest stars and continue to reinvent ourselves in the face of an ever changing music industry.  We have a strategic partnership with KEXP Radio (kexp.org), providing an in studio series with some of the biggest names in Indie Rock, from Phoenix to Yeasayer to The Hold Steady and The XX.
